Cookies for Kids' Cancer

Hello everyone!  I want to take this time to let you know that I decided to partner up with Cookies for Kids' Cancer.  If you've never heard of them before then it is my pleasure to let you know how this non-profit organization started.

Cookies for Kids' Cancer, was founded by parents inspired by their son Liam's battle with cancer. They were shocked to learn that the main reason over 25% of kids diagnosed with cancer do not survive is because of a lack of effective therapies. And the reason for the lack of therapies was very simple: lack of funding. They pledged to support the development of new and better treatments by giving people a simple way to get involved.

It all started with 96,000 cookies...

Gretchen had a crazy idea for a larger-than-life bake sale with the goal of baking 96,000 cookies with friends and volunteers. Dozens of other families whose children were also battling Neuroblastoma got involved and began to take orders for cookies from friends, co-workers, and neighbors. All 96,000 cookies were sold in three weeks, thanks to the work of over 250 volunteers. The event raised over $400,000 for pediatric cancer research, but it was soon clear that something bigger than a bake sale had begun. Even weeks after the event was over, requests for cookies kept coming in. What started as a desperate act to raise money and awareness for her child's own cancer blossomed into something much bigger than any had planned. The event caught the eye and the hearts of the media and people all over the country. Emails from across the United States started flooding in asking the same simple question "what can we do to help?"

As a way for everyone to help, you can hold your own bake sale and donate the proceeds to Cookies for Kids' Cancer or hold a virtual bake sale.

I would love to raise $250.00 or more for this cause and I'm hoping you all would like to join in as well.  I am asking that you take a minute and donate to  Cookies for Kids' Cancer.  The donation can be whatever you feel comfortable with; as little as a $1.00 is greatly appreciated!  All you have to do is head over to my Donation Page and enter the amount you'd like.   As a way of saying thank you, the top donations will be sent a dozen cookies from one of these lovely sponsors:

It all began in 1992 when Miriam “Nana” Diamond was inspired to create a moist and chewy cookie that not only tasted delicious, but was baked with ingredients she enjoyed giving to her friends and family; a cookie sweetened with natural fruit juice, rather than refined sugars, that was packed with flavor.

After receiving rave reviews from friends and family she started her own cookie company, and after months of mixing, baking and tasting, she perfected four cookie flavors worthy of the Nana’s Cookie Company name. Miriam took her 20 years of natural foods experience, loaded up her car and began selling and delivering the delicious cookie to local stores. Almost two decades later, Nana’s Cookie Company’s delicious cookies, cookie bites and cookie bars can be found in hundreds of stores across the country. In addition to classic original flavors such as Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin and Peanut Butter, Nana’s bakes a line of Gluten Free cookies, which come in delectable flavors including Lemon, Fudge, Ginger and many more. Our Gluten Free cookies are free of ingredients that cause many food allergies, including corn, soy, dairy, eggs, casein and wheat. Each fresh-baked cookie that gets wrapped up and distributed throughout the country still holds true to Miriam “Nana” Diamond’s original goal, when she was in her home baking cookies for her friends and family – that cookies can, and should, taste delicious through quality ingredients.

Our business has been family owned and operated since 2003. The Catalina Cookie Co. was founded in 1980 by the Soloman Family and later owned by the Bogenschutz Family. We continued the family tradition of homemade and fresh baked original cookie recipes. We then added more coffee options, thus adding “Coffee” to the business name. Over the years, we have expanded our business to include Avalon’s ONLY Fresh Fruit Fro-yo Bar! The Catalina Coffee & Cookie Co. has twice been awarded “Best Dessert” during the annual Taste of Avalon competition. We are known for our genuine love of our community, supporting local fundraisers and causes alike.  Gene, the maker and baker of the cookies is a Leukemia survivor.  He is now in remission for the past SIX years!  How wonderful is that?  They know just how important funds and awareness for cancer is.

Thank you all for taking the time to donate, it is beyond grateful and for such a great cause!
